Remain Calm! All is Well!
The Sox lost to Tampa Bay last night and temporarily gave up first place in the division to the MFY. I've had the mounting feeling of a 'What the FUCK is going on?' Red Sox Outburst for a while now and with the losses starting to pile up, it's beginning to become hard to contain. When was the last time the Sox won a series? I can't even remember.
When I feel a big the outburst coming on I try to remain calm and remind myself of the following:
- The Sox always seem to go into a slump at this time of year.
- The Sox are only 1/2 a game back.
- There's still plenty of baseball season left.
- Theo is going to make a move by the trade deadline that will set things straight.
A couple other quick points:
- Hitting-wise and defensively, the outfield is solid. 3rd Base and SS are also solid. Catching is solid. If Theo can get a fix for what's going on at 1st and 2nd, we'll be in pretty good shape.
- I've tried to be supportive of Bellhorn all year and I don't want to give the impression that I'm glad that he's hurt but I do have to say, I'm glad he's not playing. His fielding is fine, not spectactular, but he gets the job done. Hitting wise, he's just awful. He's practically a guaranteed out every time. You may as well just have the pitcher hit for him. I think if I had to see Bellhorn stand there and watch a called strike 3 whiz by one more time, I might have lost it.
- Millar needs to start hitting or he needs to start sitting. I'm sorry but this has gone on long enough.
- Starting pitching has been solid, especially when you consider the Sox have been near or at the top of the division without Shilling all year. Wade Miller has been dissapointing. I was expecting a lot more from him this year but maybe I set my hopes too high.
- The 'pen is a source of worry, as we all know. No need to elaborate there.
Here are those reminders again:
- The Sox always seem to go into a slump at this time of year.
- The Sox are only 1/2 a game back.
- There's still plenty of baseball season left.
- Theo is going to make a move by the trade deadline that will set things straight.
