Sox do their part. Need to keep it going...
First off, I just want to say that I am thinking about the people affected by this latest hurricane, Rita. From the reports I have read online, this one is not as bad as Katrina but it is still going to have a terrible effect on thousands of people. Try to do what you can to help.
The Sox got the job done last night, beating the O's in a comeback win. Arroyo pitched well and went deep enough into the game that we did not have to rely too much on the pen. I have to admit, I have very little confidence in our relievers right now. I hate to say this but I feel like no lead is safe once we go to the pen so I was a bit nervous about who was going to come in for Arroyo.
Gonzalez and Delcarmen are 'decent' but can be scary to watch at times. Bradford just scares me to death. I feel like every pitch he throws has the potential for disaster. I have no numbers to back any of this up, this is just my gut feelings about those guys.
Thankfully the generally reliable Myers came in and did his job. He is usually good for an out for that 'specific' hitter, as long as he is not left in to long. Then I was glad to see Paplebon come out to finish out the 8th. In my mind, Paplebon is probably the most reliable middle relief guy we have. He seems to exude confidence and makes batters miss without having to get all tricky with his pitches. I hope we will see him used in this role during the next week. Timlin did his job in the 9th and thankfully there were no hair-raising, run scoring antics to finish the game. Paplebon in the 8th, Timlin in the 9th? That could work...
The Jays are holding onto a 7-4 lead over the MFY in the 8th. Hold the line!! I had a feeling this morning that the Jays would take this one. Hopefully they can hang on for the win. If it happens, The Sox need to take advantage... (but you know that!)
I'll be wearing my rally cap all day today. In fact, I think I'll keep it that way until we get back that division lead. Whatever it takes...
