Blow up the Red Sox World...
Unless you live under a rock, you've no doubt heard that Johnny Damon is now a Yankee. My first reaction to the news involved lots of steering wheel bashing, swearing and strange looks from passing cars.
Is it just me or does it seem like the Red Sox are imploding? Are they trying to suck or is it just coming naturally to them?
Now The Sox will try to put all kinds of spin on this move, citing Damon's age and his throwing ability. That's pretty weak. Does Larry really think we're all going to just nod our heads and agree with him when he tries to explain this away?
I can hear the spin already, "Yeah, he was the best lead-off hitter in baseball, had great speed on the bases and in the outfield, where he played with reckless abandon, but he had a weak throwing arm."
The Red Sox are still 'Idiots', except now they're up in the front office instead of out on the field.
I know the Sox have made lots of moves this offseason, but I can't really say I'm all that thrilled with any of them so far. The only move that seems decent to me was the Beckett signing, and even that move is a big 'if' depending on the guy's ability to stay healthy. Plus, the Sox gave away their best prospect, Hanley Ramirez, the supposed 'future' at SS and then they trade away Renteria? What the hell kind of plan is that?
I was not a big Renteria fan, but if you know you're going to unload Rent, would'nt you want to keep your #1 prospect who happens to be a short-stop?
From this fan's perspective, The Red Sox seem to be in total disarray. Is anybody thinking ahead over there? The Red Sox are like a ship with a broken rudder. They're a complete mess right now and this GM by committe thing is working about as well for them as closer by comitte did.
There is literally going to be an almost entirely new team on the field next year.
If one of the goals of the Red Sox front office is to lower everybody's expectations a notch, mission accomplished. It's amazing how quickly the Red Sox went from being a team that finally had it's shit together in a cold, methodical, New England Patriot-Like way, to becoming a complete cluster-fuck.
Now more than ever...
man, I didn't hear that they traded Hanley! Thats rediculous!! The idiots really ARE upstairs. Merry f*%ckin Christmas
